Brief Itinerary Description

Sitting on the rooftop of the world, Northern areas of Pakistan provide the ideal geographical and spiritual backdrop for a demanding, but rewarding, challenge. This outstanding trek to the base camp of the world's second highest mountain crosses the lush valleys of Askoley, allowing tourists to explore the villages and sample the hospitality of the Balti people.

Just 14 of the world's peaks exceed 8000 m in height, five are in Pakistan . Standing at 8611m, K-2 is the second highest mountain only next to Mount Everest . Your adventure begins at Skardu from where you reach the village of Askole through a full day's jeep ride on a mud track. The next day starts with the tremendous trek to base camp of K-2. The paths are well trodden as the only means of transportation is by foot. You will get acclimatized steadily, as the trail meanders over and around numerous streams and rivers to Paiyu which is followed by Baltoro Glacier ‘ the most popular trekking and mountaineering area in Pakistan- and with good reason, as clustered around the end of the glacier are 8 of the world's 30 highest mountains. Rose of needle spires, granite towers, shining glaciated mountains and snowy dooms line the glacier, providing perhaps the greatest mountain scenery in the world. You reach the magnificent camp of Concordia also known as throne room of mountain gods. From Concordia you reach the base camp of K-2 in 4 hours. Triumphant at reaching the base camp, you descend through the Baltoro Glacier. You travel to Skurdu and then fly to Islamabad to explore the city and relax before a flight back home.

How will the money be utilized?

The funds generated through this walk will be used for the care and welfare of people suffering from people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and related Dementias admitted at Alzheimer's Day Care Center in Lahore .

  What should I expect?'

If you are expecting a five star treatment throughout the tour, you need to get yourself in the true spirit of tourism. Hotel stays are offered in the beginning and end of your itinerary. Other than that, the accommodation and transport services that are offered in Pakistan come up to a comfortably acceptable level along with the convenient availability of all other tourism services.

How do I convince sponsors that this is not a holiday?'

For an ordinary holiday you do not spend months in training and fund-raising ‘which becomes a pre-requisite once you register for a Millennium Challenge Adventure like K2 quest. Trekking for days in highly unpredictable temperatures is something that requires a lot of commitment coupled with drive and energy quite unlike an ordinary holiday.

How fit do I need to be?'

K2 Quest is a tough walk but you must realize that children suffering from a transfusion dependent inherited disease “Thalassaemia” have also done this walk in 2001& 2004 with us without any complications. We would recommend some moderate training for at least  a month and also provide you with fitness training notes to build your stamina.
